Mitt's Bad Bet

Gaffe Puts Spotlight Squarely on Leadership, Organization

If I were a betting man, my money would have been on Mitt Romney to win the Republican nomination.  Until Saturday night, that is.  Never mind Mitt's new gambling problem, it's what's going on with his campaign that has me confounded.

Typically, I handicap a race based on a simple equation:

Leadership + Organization = Success

My argument for Mitt has been that in a field that included Cain, Perry, and the erratic Gingrich, he had the CEO-ness corner covered.  Yeah he's got that flip-flopper thing and he is unloved, but leadership is measured relative to the competition.  As for the 'organization' side of the equation, given his many years running for president I reasoned there was no other Republican with a more robust national operation.
